A new analysis presents the methodology and data that can be used to map the Danish music industry’s CO2 emissions – from talent development to concerts.
In collaboration with The Footprint Firm and with support from the Augustinus Foundation, the Partnership for Sustainable Development in Music has conducted an in-depth analysis that maps out how the total CO2 emissions from the Danish music industry can be assessed.
The analysis presents a relevant and validated methodology that is based on the music industry’s value chain, the economic activity in the industry, and internationally recognised methods for calculating CO2 emissions.
The music industry’s climate footprint
A comprehensive assessment of the music industry’s climate footprint aims to drive the green transition of the music scene and compare the industry’s footprint with other industries.
The results of the analysis indicate that the necessary data is available, but before the total emissions can be assessed, there is a need to gather and build stronger data in some areas of the industry. These areas include live performances and music streaming, which are also expected to be hotspots in the industry’s total emissions.
The next step before a comprehensive CO2 inventor can be made will therefore be to close these data gaps and collect the necessary data from live performances and music streaming.
